The standard route to Mount Massive's summit is via the long 13.1 mile out-and-back Class 2 East Slopes. As with many Sawatch Range mountains, this is a challenging hike with significant elevation gain.

Mount Elbert (14,440ft.), within Colorado's Sawatch Range, is the tallest peak in the state. There are a few routes to the summit, though we prefer the Class 2 Southeast Ridge approach, which is less busy and a bit more challenging at 10.5 miles roundtrip with ~4,500ft. of elevation gain.
